A man in South Korea found himself in legal problems after binge-eating in order to gain weight to escape mandatory military service.

The unidentified man doubled his food intake in the weeks leading up to his required physical exam for the compulsory military draft, according to the Korean Herald.
Avoiding the draft in South Korea without justifiable cause is punishable by up to three years in prison.
But the man received a shorter sentence due to no criminal convictions in his background and his vow to serve the military faithfully, according to the Herald.
The 26-year-old was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for two years, for violating the Military Service Act, according to the outlet.
The husky defendant followed a regimen concocted by his buddy, who received a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for aiding and abetting the man’s intentional eat-a-thon.
However, the friend denied the accusation, claiming he never thought his pal would go through with the bloated scheme.
