On Nov. 20 at 11:25 a.m., police were called to the midtown area of Roselawn and Marlee Aves. for a report of a missing child.

Police say the baby’s father called from a residential building to say the infant was missing.

Officers located the baby and performed life-saving measures. The baby was taken to hospital and pronounced dead. Police did not say where the baby had been found.

The mother, Karessa Edwards, 30, of Toronto, was arrested and initially charged with failure to provide the necessaries of life.

On Monday police announced the charges were upgraded to second-degree murder following an autopsy.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400, or call Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).

The child, whose name was not released, is the city’s 79th homicide of the year.
