Ruben Amorim has made it clear he admires Erik ten Hag as the new Manchester United boss prepares for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Ipswich.
The 39-year-old has taken over from Ten Hag, who was axed at the end of October following a dreadful start to the season.
Though the Dutchman won two trophies in as many years, it still wasn’t enough for him to keep his job.
United have gone for the likes of Ten Hag, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal and David Moyes in the years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

But none of those managers have come close to guiding the fallen giants to Premier League title glory.
Amorim, speaking at his first pre-match press conference, has now spoken about his predecessors.
And the ex-Sporting Lisbon and Braga coach believes Ten Hag remains one of the best coaches in Europe, despite his mixed time at Old Trafford.
“I really don’t know the biggest challenge, I will find out,” he said.
“You have different types of coaches here, the guys that won everything like [Louis] van Gaal and [Jose] Mourinho; the ones who knew the club, like [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer; and then one of the best outside the five biggest leagues in [Erik] ten Hag.
“We have to acknowledge we need time, but we also have to win games, and that is it.
“You have different types of coaches, same result. We will try to do it in our way.”
One issue at United over the past decade has been recruitment.

Some players, such as Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, have been worth the investment.
Others, including Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Alexis Sanchez and Antony, have not.
With Sir Jim Ratcliffe calling the shots, and the likes of Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox working under him, United are convinced they have an elite set-up in place.
When asked about recruitment, Amorim says he will have a ‘great responsibility’ when it comes to choosing the right players for the club.

“This is a football club that will be here for a long time,” he added.
“You have to work with everyone together, we have to improve the process of recruitment.
“I want to have a strong position on that because of how I want to play. It should be together but I think the manager should get the final say. When everything is aligned, we can buy and sell players.
“I have a great responsibility when we choose players because that is something that should be done in this way, I should be able to choose the players.”

Given the managers who have failed at United, it’s started to look like a cursed job.
Amorim, however, thinks differently.
“Of course not, I truly believe that. Call me naive, I truly believe I’m the right guy for the right moment,” he continued.
“I’m not worried about that.”
