Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has held his first pre-match press conference since replacing Erik ten Hag as he prepares for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Ipswich – and opened up on a text message he received from Jose Mourinho after taking the job at Old Trafford.
The 39-year-old was appointed as the club’s new manager at the start of the month, with Ten Hag relieved of his duties following a nightmare start to the season.
United have improved in the short time since Ten Hag’s dismissal, with Ruud van Nistelrooy winning three of his four matches as interim manager.
Plenty of work is required for the club to start challenging the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool for Premier League title glory, however.

Amorim, speaking on Friday, has now revealed he received a text message from Mourinho, who managed the fallen giants between 2016 and 2018, after taking on the United job.
He said: “He sent me a message, it’s a big club, lovely club with lovely people, and he’s correct, it still is.
“We are building a new club. I am a different guy. I hope to teach something different here to my players.
“It’s the best club in England. We want to win, that’s all.”
Many have written off United after years of regression.
But Amorim insists he ‘believes’ in the players he’s inherited, with the former Sporting Lisbon boss adamant they can turn things around.
“I’m a little bit of a dreamer, I believe in myself. I believe in the club, we have the same mindset,” he added.
“I truly believe in the players, I know you don’t believe a lot but I do. I want to try new things. You guys don’t think it’s possible, I do.”

While United are no longer the force they were under Sir Alex Ferguson, however, they remain one of the biggest clubs in world football.
Amorim, having only managed in Portugal before, is venturing into unknown territory.
The 39-year-old appears relaxed when it comes to expectations, however.
When asked on how big United is compared to those, he added: “It’s bigger. There’s a lot of departments, you feel here’s a global club.
