Barry McGuigan and Carl ‘The Jackal’ Frampton – two boxing champions, two different generations, but together a hugely successful partnership, in the ring and out of it.

Under McGuigan’s guidance, Frampton won world titles at super-bantamweight and featherweight in 2014 and 2016.

But in 2017, things turned sour, with lawyers for Frampton claiming McGuigan had him on a “slave contract”.

He vowed to never fight for the local sports legend again after the tax man called at his home with a bill for nearly £400,000.

The court case, where Frampton claimed up to £6 million from McGuigan’s promotion company was eventually settled for an unknown amount in November 2020.

Four years later, McGuigan has now entered the “I’m a Celebrity…get me out of here” jungle.

Writing in his Sunday Life column, Frampton remarked: “I know what he is like deep down. He is good in front of the media with the nice guy image, but I know the real one, so we’ll see what happens with the cameras on him 24/7.”

Ciarán Dunbar is joined by boxing journalist David Mohan and Belfast Telegraph reporter Niamh Campbell to unpack the fallout between these two boxing giants.
