A new warning about cold weather has been issued for Northern Ireland.

The Met Office said icy temperatures will lead to some difficult travelling conditions, affecting five counties.

Its yellow alert is in place from 4pm this afternoon to 10am tomorrow.

The Met Office said: “Icy stretches are expected to form on untreated surfaces during Wednesday evening and overnight into Thursday as temperatures drop below freezing.

“A few sleet or snow showers are also likely at times, particularly close to coasts.”

The warning applies to counties Antrim, Armagh, Down, Londonderry and Tyrone, as well as parts of England, Scotland and Wales.

It follows another night of cold weather, which saw a Tyrone village turned into a winter wonderland as snow hit parts of Northern Ireland.

Belfast Telegraph photographer Kevin Scott and Aisling Kelly took these photographs showing Carrickmore’s main street turned white.

The previous night, Monday, also saw snowfall, mainly over hills and mountains, in some areas.

Police have warned motorists of difficult driving conditions today.

The PSNI said: “Please take extra care on the roads this morning especially on those which may not have been gritted.

“Clear your windscreen of ice and snow before you set off and remember to slow down and increase the distance between you and the car ahead.”
