Marius Borg Høiby, 27, had been charged with sexual intercourse with “someone who is unconscious or for other reasons is unable to resist the act,” Norwegian police said on Tuesday, according to Sky News.
Høiby is the stepson of the heir to the Norwegian throne, Crown Prince Haakon, but he does not have a royal title nor does he perform official duties.
The 27-year-old was arrested on Monday in a car with the alleged victim from an incident in August.
On Aug. 4, Høiby was detained following a fight at a woman’s apartment in Oslo and accused of causing bodily harm to the resident, with whom he was having a relationship, police said.
Norwegian media reports said at the time that police found a knife stuck into one of the walls of the woman’s bedroom.
On Tuesday, police said the charges relating to the August incident now include domestic abuse.
Høiby released a statement through his lawyer following his initial arrest, saying he suffers from “several mental disorders” and has “struggled with substance abuse for a long time,” for which he claimed to be getting treatment, according to the Daily Mail.

Mette-Marit’s eldest son apologized to the alleged victim and his family for his actions.
However, Høiby was arrested again in September for violating a restraining order against Rebecca Helberg Arntsen, whom he admitted to assaulting.
Høiby has previously been charged with abuse against ex-girlfriends Julianne Snekkestad and Nora Haukland, as well as with threatening a man, according to the Mail.
Crown Prince Haakon, who is in Jamaica in his role as goodwill ambassador for the UN’s development program, broke his silence following his stepson’s arrest.
He told NRK that he misses his wife, noting that in his absence, Marius is now facing “serious charges.”
“Today, of course, we are thinking of all those affected,” he said, adding that authorities should be “given room to do their job,” which he “trusts” will be handled in “a good way.”
