Rachel Reeves is in a “massive degree of trouble” amid claims the Chancellor embellished her LinkedIn CV, according to ex-editor of The Sun, Kelvin MacKenzie.
Speaking on GB News, the journalist said Reeves is in trouble “one way or the other”, predicting the economy’s downfall in the coming months.
Downing Street has defended the Chancellor after a Guido Fawkes report contested her claim in a 2021 interview that she had spent a decade at the Bank of England.
Her LinkedIn account appeared to contradict this claim, describing it as a six-year period between 2000 and 2006.

“I would think as Chancellor, she is in a massive degree of trouble”, said MacKenzie.
“I would think Starmer will fight like fury to keep her. She will then be a wounded beast and that’s before the economy has tanked because of their ideas.

“Basically, she is done for one way or the other. If she has broken the ministerial code, we’re only five months into this Government. We’ve still got another 55 to go.
“I’m delighted to watch this explosion happen – but I’m very surprised this has happened so early on.
“Labour brought this whole problem on themselves and it’s not the only problem they have brought on themselves.
“So early in the piece, I am astonished.”

Asked whether the Chancellor had exaggerated her record, No 10 rushed to her defence.
“The Prime Minister is very clear that the Chancellor has restored financial stability,” a spokeswoman said.
She added: “This is someone who on coming into office looked under the bonnet and exposed a £22 billion black hole in the public finances, and has been straight with the public about what is necessary to balance the books and restore financial stability in the face of that.”
Pressed about Sir Keir Starmer’s thoughts on the reports, the No 10 spokeswoman added: “He is very clear that this is a Chancellor that has been straight with the public about the state of the public finances and what is necessary to restore financial stability. That is most important.”
Reeves’s LinkedIn profile documents her work history from 2000 onwards.
It says she worked in three areas of the Bank over the six-year period – its international economic analysis division, then at the British Embassy in Washington DC in the second secretary economic division, and finally in the structural economic analysis division.
After this it shows her time working for Halifax Bank of Scotland, then her political career following her election in 2010.
