Niamh Murray kicked six points as Clann Eireann retained their Ulster Senior Club title with a nine-point victory over Lurgan at a wet Healy Park.
The Armagh champions opened their account with just 46 seconds on the clock and the hit seven straight scores before Lurgan pointed in the 13th minute.
The Orchard side continued to dominate the second quarter, adding another five points. While Lurgan did hit 1-01, the 26th-minute goal from Emma Tolan was a bit fortunate.
Clann’s Aoibhinn Donohue was sin-binned late in the first-half but still finished strong, adding a couple of points to go in at the break leading 0-12 to 1-02.
Player of the Match Niamh Henderson pointed in the first minute of the second-half and followed soon after with a great goal.
For the next 10 minutes, Lurgan had a purple patch and outscored the opposition four points to two, but any chance of a comeback was halted as Donohue netted for Clann Eireann midway through the second period.
In the final 10 minutes, Lurgan scored another 1-02, but Clann Eireann finished with the last two points which ensured a nine-point victory.
The holders fully deserved their victory. In the first period, they were ruthless against a nervous Lurgan side. Their defence was sharp while their forwards wasted very little.
Lurgan can be proud of their second-half performance and should take a lot of learning from the game. The Breffni side are a young outfit and we haven’t seen the last of them.
Clann Eireann captain Henderson, who contributed 1-12 in total, was named Player of the Match.
