Last night in Mexico City, Victoria Kjær Theilvig seemed to predict her Miss Universe win during the final question round, with four other competitors still in line for the crown. She shared an inspirational message to everyone watching: “I stand here today because I wanted to make history, and that’s what I‘m doing tonight, so never give up.” The 21-year-old has now become the first Dane to win the globally renowned competition.
One of the first prizes the winner received on stage is her gem-encrusted crown, but unlike her predecessors, Victoria won’t be going home with the $5.5million worth Force For Good crown. Instead, she is the first to wear a new creation by French-Filipino jewelry brand Jewelmer called Light of Infinity, adorned with South Sea pearls and diamonds and while the exact cost is still under wraps it’s believed to be worth around $5million.
However, it’s not just the dazzling crown that Victoria gets to go home with. The aspiring lawyer will also be getting a salary of $250,000 for the next year while she carries out her work as Miss Universe, according to Marca.
Every year, the winner of Miss Universe not only holds the title but also must put it to good use with a bustling schedule full of social events, humanitarian causes, philanthropic work, celebrity appearances and much more all over the globe. Her travel costs will be covered for all of these work events and she will also be living in a luxury New York City apartment while she goes about her duties.
The winner also usually receives a number of substantial gifts from sponsors, of the Miss Universe Organisation and those that supported the beauty queen herself. This usually includes year’s worth of hair and beauty products, skincare products, fashion, photography and modelling sessions and access to stylists.
Victoria may also receive support to achieve her career goals beyond her reign according to Bustle. The runner-up, Nigeria’s Chidimma Adetshina alongside other title winners like Miss Congeniality Jenelle Thongs from Trinidad and Tobago are also expected to receive special awards.
