Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy won both the DP World Tour Championship and the overall Race to Dubai title.

McIlroy secured the Race to Dubai title long before he completed his final round at the Jumeirah Golf Estates.

The Holywood man only needed a top-11 finish in the competition’s final event to reach the summit of this season’s rankings, with South African Thriston Lawrence the only player able to deny him with a win in Dubai.

However, Lawrence’s challenge never materialised and when he came home in one under par for the event, McIlroy secured his third successive Race to Dubai crown – sixth in total – with five holes left in his final round.

McIlroy went on to win the event itself, fending off competition from Denmark’s Rasmus Hoejgaard. McIlroy finished two shots clear on -15.

Fellow Northern Irishman Tom McKibbin finished an impressive joint tenth on -8.
