A missing person was successfully rescued following a multi-agency search operation in the Portrush area which stretched into the early hours of this morning and included the Coastguard helicopter.

The PSNI, HM Coastguard and the RNLI lifeboat were all involved in the rescue off the coast.

Police confirmed to the Belfast Telegraph they responded to a report of a missing person in the Portrush area just before 7pm last night.

“An extensive search was carried out with the assistance of colleagues from HM Coastguard, RNLI and Community Rescue Service.

“Thankfully, the missing person was found safe and well in the early hours of Sunday, 17th November.”

A spokesperson for the Coastguard added: “HM Coastguard assisted Police Service of Northern Ireland with an incident in Portrush last night, 16 November.

“Alerted at around 7.30pm, Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard Rescue Teams, lifeboats from Portrush RNLI and the Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter from Prestwick were sent.”
