The 56th Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix will now take place on Sunday as part of a revised schedule following a second day without any laps for the riders due to compete in the 12-lap race.
Free practice was initially moved forward by 24 hours from Thursday to Friday because of rain and wind caused by a passing tropical storm.
However, the session was called off again on Friday afternoon when a heavily disrupted qualifying session for the FIA Formula Regional cars, which saw seven red flag incidents, left no time for the motorcycling free practice.
The organisers have issued a new schedule, with free practice now scheduled for Saturday morning at 7:20am local time (11:20pm GMT).
A one-hour qualifying session will then run from 8:50am (12:50pm GMT).
On Sunday, a 20-minute warm-up will take place from 7am (11pm GMT) followed by the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix at 8am (midnight).
FHO Racing BMW riders Peter Hickman and new signing Davey Todd go into the event as the favourites, with record nine-time winner Michael Rutter – also riding for Faye Ho’s FHO Racing squad – among the podium contenders with 2022 winner Erno Kostamo from Finland.
Kostamo and fellow International Road Racing Championship (IRRC) competitors Laurent Hoffman and Luca Gottardi – also competing in Macau – are set to return to the Briggs Equipment North West 200 in 2025 following discussions with race chief Mervyn Whyte, who has been liaising with riders and teams on behalf of the Macau GP organisers this week.
