In Canada, Tesla Cybertruck orders opened this summer with prices starting at $137,990. If you’re lucky enough to own one, keep an eye out for those recall notices. While there aren’t any Cybertruck recalls listed on Transport Canada yet, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the U.S. counts six in its records, with the most recent recall affecting 2,431 vehicles Stateside.

This time, the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck is being recalled due to a fault in the drive inverter. According to the Safety Recall Report, only 1% of the total recalled vehicles is expected to be affected. Those affected by the faulty drive inverter are at risk of not producing torque, meaning the vehicle could experience a loss of power while being driven. If this happens, there’s a higher risk of a crash.

The report also notes no warning signs of the issue or loss of propulsion. However, if the driver can not apply torque, the Cybertruck will send out a visual alert on the screen with instructions to safely pull over the vehicle to the side of the road.

U.S. Cybertruck owners with affected vehicles will be notified by mail advising them that Tesla service will replace the drive inverter, free of charge. Tesla’s number for this recall is SB-24-40-009.

For any vehicle concerns, you can also check online at Transport Canada, using your VIN, to see if your vehicle is affected by a recall notice.

Editor’s note: Six is a higher number of recalls than most for a new vehicle in its first year on the market; Ford’s F-150 Lightning electric pickup, by contrast, went on sale in 2022 and has seen just three recalls. That said, two of those six Cybertruck recalls were for issues fixed via over-the-air (OTA) updates—one, for example, was for too-small font on the main display, and saw the automaker make a repair to the truck’s software remotely.
