OG Anunoby has been a big hit since being traded by the Raptors to the New York Knicks, but he covers so much ground defensively that sometimes the court can’t contain him.
Anunoby blocked two shots in Wednesday’s one-point home loss to the Chicago Bulls and nearly came up with a steal at one point, deflecting an errant pass into the stands. Anunoby’s momentum took him right to a barrier protecting fans sitting courtside. Anunoby used his right leg and hand to brace himself and not tumble forward into their laps.
As it turns out, Anunoby nearly collided with film star Anne Hathaway and a child. The Devil Wears Prada star seemed amused by the whole thing. The child, who was wearing a Knicks uniform, was less so. That’s because Anunoby inadvertently spilled popcorn all over the place.
Knicks commentator Mike Breen quipped: “There’s always more popcorn, young man,” after the first-quarter incident.
Hathaway is a noted sports fan, particularly of English Premier League soccer club Arsenal.
Anunoby spent parts of seven seasons with the Raptors before being traded to the Knicks in a blockbuster deal Dec. 30 that brought Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett to Toronto. He is averaging career bests in three-point shooting percentage and free throw accuracy this season.
