The body of Kevin Mirshahi, a cryptocurrency influencer abducted in June, has been found at Île-de-la-Visitation park in Montreal’s Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough, the Sûreté du Québec said on Tuesday.

A passerby discovered the body at the nature park around 10 a.m. on Oct. 30. Police sources told The Gazette the body was decomposing. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, marking Montreal’s 32nd homicide this year.

A spokesperson for the SQ said Tuesday that an autopsy confirmed the body’s identity as Kevin Mirshahi.

Mirshahi was last seen on June 21 when he was abducted from a condo building in Old Montreal, along with three others. Montreal police learned of the kidnapping around 4 a.m. on June 21 after a 911 call reporting a conflict near de la Commune and St-Hubert Sts.

The three other abductees were located hours later, but Mirshahi remained missing, prompting Montreal police to transfer the investigation to the SQ.

The young influencer’s disappearance drew public interest because of his ties to Crypto Paradise Island, a private investment group he owned and operated, according to the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF).

Since 2021, Quebec’s investment regulator, the AMF, had been investigating Mirshahi. On July 4, 2024, a decision was made extending blocking orders related to Mirshahi, a company and two other individuals. It placed a “ban on carrying out any activity as a broker or investment adviser, a ban on securities transactions and orders for the withdrawal of publications on social media and the withdrawal of the name of the AMF.”

In late August, the SQ arrested a 32-year-old woman in connection with the incident. It followed an arrest warrant that was made public at the Valleyfield courthouse alleging Joanie Lepage killed Mirshahi on June 21, the day he was abducted. She is also alleged to have kidnapped Mirshahi and to have acted as an accomplice after he was killed.

The SQ said the investigation remains ongoing.
