What could have been a really “crappy day” turned out to be pretty alright for Darren Rizzi on Sunday.

Rizzi, who coached the New Orleans Saints to their first win since Week 2 in his first game in charge, was very open with reporters after the game, sharing a story that probably could have stayed in the locker room.

It turns out Rizzi, who described himself as a “pretty open guy,” had a little bit of trouble in the bathroom when he first arrived at the stadium on Sunday morning.

The interim head coach detailed to reporters how he clogged a toilet and then joked that he thought it was a sign it would be a “crappy day.”

“This is how my day started,” Rizzi said. “I get down to the Superdome. I go in the head coach’s locker room, which I’ve never used before. So here I am, early in the morning, I go to the bathroom. This is how my day started. I clogged the toilet. I’m like, ‘This is gonna be a crappy day.’ Pun intended!”

While the joke didn’t land as he probably had hoped it would, Rizzi continued to elaborate on the story.

“I’m like, OK, this is not really a great start to the day. Here we go.’ And so, not really feeling like the head coach of an NFL team right now. I’m like, ‘Really? This is really how we’re gonna start my day?’”

Rizzi took over head-coaching duties from Dennis Allen, who was fired last week with the team in the midst of a seven-game losing streak.

The former special teams coordinator led his charges to a 20-17 win over NFC South rival Falcons — a little bit of payback after losing 26-24 in Atlanta back in Week 4.

It remains to be scene if Rizzi will make bathroom puns before or after facing next week’s opponent: The Cleveland Browns.

The interim head coach also went viral Sunday for his intense reactions on the sideline during the game.

After one play, he stared down one of his own players who bumped into him on the sideline. One user on X joked that “the Saints are winning this game because Darren Rizzi threatened to k*ll them if they didn’t.”
