Fans of the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen questioned if host Matt Tebbutt ‘hates’ one of his guests after a series of needling moments between the pair.

On this Saturday’s edition, Tebutt was joined in the studio by celebrity chef Marcus Wareing and actor Idris Elba.

Elba was promoting his documentary tackling knife crime around the UK and Wareing pitched in to help cook the Hollywood star an apple crumble.

However, fans were left wondering about tensions in the studio after noticing a series of barbs and cheeky digs exchanged between Tebbutt and Wareing.

During the show, fans took to social media to discuss the repeated incidents.

“Do Marcus and Matt (secretly) really hate each other?” one poster questioned.

Another observed: “I get the impression Matt is struggling not being the Big Dog on the show this week.

However, some fans were delighted by the needling.

One posted: “Brilliant show today love the bants between Marcus and Matt.”

“Loved seeing Marcus Wareing being bossed about,” relished another fan.

The two chefs made several comments at each other’s expense throughout this Saturday’s show, with Tebbutt branding Wareing “judgey Marcus”.

In one particularly tense moment, MasterChef runner-up Alexina Anatole described her cooking technique as not the “Michelin Star Marcus Wareing level” to Tebbutt.

“A bit sad she didn’t include you on that one, Matt?” Wareing called from the guest’s table.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Back up Wareing, you’re still a guest here,” Tebbutt snapped back with a laugh.

Later, when the pair were cooking together, Wareing sniped “your chopping hasn’t got any better” at Tebbutt.

The Saturday Kitchen host got his own back, teasing “man of the people” Wareing about his smallholding in Kent.

Another clash of egos appeared when Elba jokingly describing Tebbutt’s food as “terrible.”

The host flashed a deadpan look to the camera and said: “Awesome.”

As Elba made clear the comment was sarcastic and enthused about how nice the cake was Tebbutt, again deadpan, said: “What a comic.”

He and Elba, along with Wareing, laughed off the moment.
