A warning has been issued urging people to avoid entering the water at Lough Neagh after a sample was taken by officials.

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough council said a sample was taken by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs on Thursday at Cranfield Point.

The spot on the north shore of the lough has previously reported issues around blue-green algae.

Officials said people in the are should not enter the water for the next 72 hours.

“If walking dogs in the area, please keep them on a lead to avoid entering the water,” they added.
