HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has issued an update to people who receive financial support such as Child Benefit and are aged 34 or under. The government department, which is the UK’s tax, payments and customs authority, dishes out certain benefits – among its many other responsibilities.
In an alert earlier this week, HMRC asked people who receive Child Benefit, Guardian’s Allowance and tax credits, to “do one thing”. The plea was also extended to anyone who has a National Insurance number.
HMRC said: “Talk Money Week is an annual awareness initiative. The theme this year is ‘Do One Thing’.” The “one thing” in question is to download the HMRC app, with the campaign particularly aimed at people aged 18-34.
Information on Gov.uk continues: “More than 1.7 million people are already using the HMRC app every month, which enables users to access services such as making a Child Benefit claim, finding their National Insurance number and a tax calculator to estimate their take-home pay.
“Between July and September 2024, 711,382 new users downloaded the app, and there was a 39% increase in app activity compared to the same period last year – up from 20.93 million sessions to 29.22 million. And nearly £300 million has been paid to HMRC via the app so far this financial year.”
HMRC said the most popular features used on the app between July and September this year were checking check State Pension contributions (1.9 million sessions), managing Child Benefit (1.6 million sessions), and viewing annual tax summaries (1.4 million sessions).
