Nigel Farage has offered to act as peacemaker between Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Donald Trump following the former US president’s historic election victory.

The Reform UK MP, speaking to GB News from Trump’s victory party in West Palm Beach, said he would be “very happy to help broker a little bit of peace” between the two leaders.


His comments came as Starmer extended congratulations to the president-elect, emphasising the importance of the UK-US special relationship.

Farage, who has been a long-time ally of Trump, suggested the Labour government should “roll out the red carpet” and consider being “slightly apologetic” for towards Trump.

He said: “Clearly what the Labour government needs to do is to roll out the red carpet to be welcoming, maybe to be just ever so slightly apologetic for sending people over to back Kamala Harris during the campaign.

“There is a fantastic opportunity ahead of us. All I can say, as somebody who was a personal friend of his and has backed him all the way through his career, if I can help broker a little bit of peace between the two, I’d be very happy to help.”

Britain’s foreign secretary, David Lammy also offered his congratulations to Trump on X despite comment in 2017 where he tweeted he would protest if “racist and KKK/neo-Nazi sympathiser Trump” visited London.

Discussing the historic victory Farage added: “This is what I thought would happen, but it’s happened on a really big scale.

“The swings towards Trump are truly remarkable, so I’m thrilled by that. On a human level, for him. This is the most incredible political comeback we’ve seen in modern times.

“No one since Churchill has gone from the top to the bottom and come back again in quite this way. That’s remarkable.

“Just the number of Americans just saying, Hey, you know what? We’ve had enough of the direction our government’s going in. We want somebody who gives strong leadership.

“Whether you like him or not, he is a remarkable human being. It’s a great achievement and I’m very proud to call him a friend of mine.”

In his congratulatory message, Starmer said: “Congratulations President-elect Trump on your historic election victory. I look forward to working with you in the years ahead.”

The Prime Minister emphasised the strength of the transatlantic alliance, stating: “As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise.”

He added that “the UK-US special relationship will continue to prosper on both sides of the Atlantic for years to come,” highlighting areas including “growth and security to innovation and tech.”

Prior to the election results, Starmer had maintained a neutral stance, telling the press: “It’s for the American people to decide who they want for their president.”

Trump’s victory party at his Florida estate was filled with excitement as he captured a wave of swing states throughout the evening.

The former president is expected to win both the popular vote and the Electoral College, marking what Farage described as “truly remarkable” swings in Trump’s favour.
