The mother who was charged with negligence causing death in June after one of her children was found deceased in a Kingston apartment has now been charged with second-degree murder instead.

The new second-degree charge was laid on Sept. 27, and the accused, who was already in custody, was rearrested. Another bail hearing was held, and the accused was remanded into custody.

The 32-year-old accused was also charged with failing to provide necessities of life and two counts of abandoning a child under 10 years of age.

The body of the child was discovered on May 31, after someone from Family and Children’s Service of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington went to an apartment building on Russell Street, between Patrick and Kent streets, and discovered two abandoned children, one of whom was deceased.

The accused, meanwhile, was located at an address in Napanee and arrested.
