Heavy traffic after Belfast incident

Road users are advised of an ongoing incident on lane 3 of the M1 heading eastbound below the Broadway Bridge. The incident is passable with care but traffic is extremely heavy in the area.

Traffic is also busy on the A12 Westlink eastbound from Grosvenor Rd towards M2 York St; A12 Westlink westbound from M2 York St towards Broadway; M3 Lagan Bridge towards Nelson St; A2 Sydenham Bypass from M3 Lagan Bridge towards Dee Street in the Bangor direction; M2 city-bound from Duncrue St; M1 junction 1 Broadway westbound towards junction 3 Blacks Rd; Shaftesbury Sq to Howard St; Victoria St to York St; Boucher Road; and Lisburn Road to Stockmans Roundabout.

Shortly after 10am, a statement from the PSNI said: “Road users are advised that Church Street in Ballymena has now fully re-opened to traffic, following a fire at premises in the area earlier.”

Firefighters still at scene of extinguished fire in Ballymena

At 6.51am, a statement from the PSNI said: “Road users are advised that Church Street in Ballymena is currently closed at its junction with Broadway, in order to facilitate emergency services who remain at the scene following a report of a fire at premises in the area earlier. The fire has been extinguished, and an update will be provided in due course.”

Delays on road into Belfast, with road closed in city centre

  • In Dundonald, the A20 Upper Newtownards Road is down to one lane in each direction approaching the Ballyregan Road Junction due to Phoenix Gas working there, with delays in each direction.
  • In Belfast, Royal Avenue is closed in both directions from Donegall Street to the Library Street Junction due a burst water main.

Emergency services are attending a road traffic collision on the A20 Upper Newtownards Road at the junction of Grampian Avenue on the out of town lanes, with drivers warned to expect delays.
