Belfast’s former two-weight world champion Carl Frampton has revealed that he was nearly signed up for this year’s edition of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! alongside former boxing manager Barry McGuigan.

The pair could have been reunited after a high-profile falling out in 2017 when Frampton left McGuigan’s Cyclone Promotions to join MTK which, in turn, resulted in a high-profile court case that was finally settled in November 2020.

Frampton accused McGuigan of withholding earnings from his fights, while a countersuit saw McGuigan accuse Frampton of walking out on his contract after eight years under his brand, with both sides protesting their innocence.

But speaking on The Boxing Social podcast, Frampton has surprisingly revealed that they were nearly brought together in the most unlikely of circumstances by being involved in the hit ITV show, which returns later this month.

“I swear to God I was nearly in it last week,” revealed ‘The Jackal’.

“When Tommy Fury pulled out there was me and two others, then there was me and one other and then the fella from McFly (Danny Jones) got it instead of me.

“So obviously I think there must have been a debate that would have put me and McGuigan in at the same time.

“By the way, I would have loved to have been in with him, I would have absolutely loved it, but it wasn’t to be.”
