Another phase of housing that will be built on the green fields between Bristol and the runway of the old Filton Airfield has been proposed. A plan for a total of 158 more houses has been submitted by developer Persimmon on the Beaufort Park development to South Gloucestershire Council.

The new homes are the third phase of a project that will end with 1,100 homes on the Beaufort Park development at the western end of the huge Filton Airfield site, coming off the main A4018 as it goes from Bristol into the Cribbs Causeway area.

Persimmon said the latest batch of 158 new homes will be two- three- and four-bedroom houses, with 40 of the 158 – just over 25 per cent – would be transferred to a housing association to be either rented out to people on South Gloucestershire’s housing waiting list, or offered for sale and rent under a shared ownership scheme.

Persimmon said all the homes will be fitted with solar panels and electric vehicle charging points, and the development also includes two allotment sites and a playground.

The homes already built there are already on the market, but aren’t cheap – with prices ranging from £295,000 to £415,995. Part of the wider planning permission for the 1,100 homes in total, Persimmon have to pay South Gloucestershire Council more than £2.8 million in Community Infrastructure Levy, which the council has to spend on community facilities and transport infrastructure in the area.

Persimmon said the development will try to preserve and even enhance the existing hedgerows that create the different fields in the area.

“We are delighted to have submitted our next planning application for Beaufort Park at Fishpool Hill,” said Claire Burton, the managing director of Persimmon Homes Severn Valley.

“As a responsible developer, this site will continue to provide high-quality homes for local people in addition to significant investment in the local community. We look forward to continuing our positive work with South Gloucestershire Council as our plans for the site progress,” she added.
