Caledon OPP has charged a tow truck driver and another man for allegedly possessing two stolen vehicles.
On October 30, at 12 a.m., an officer was patrolling the area of McLaughlin Rd. and Timo Manley Rd. in Caledon and saw a tow truck towing a vehicle which was being followed by another motor vehicle.
Traffic stops were conducted on both vehicles and police determined they were stolen.
A 25-yearold tow operator from Brampton has been charged with possession property obtained by crime over $5,000, improper means of attachment – commercial motor vehicle, insecure load – commercial motor vehicle, drive commercial vehicle with a major defect in it or drawn vehicle, fail to ensure performance standards are met, and improper tires – drawn vehicle – commercial motor vehicle.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 21-year-old from Caledon, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possessing an automobile master key, and altering/destroying/removing a vehicle identification number.
“Over the last few years, there has been a surge in vehicle crime. Vehicle crime includes theft, carjackings and criminality in the tow industry,” Caledon OPP said in a release.
Anyone who notices a suspicious vehicle or person can report it to police by calling 911.
If possible, pay attention to the make, model, colour, driver/occupant descriptors, and plate number.
