Pat Lam has moved quickly to bring in reinforcements at scrum-half by re-signing former player Oscar Lennon.

Summer signing Sam Edwards made his debut for the club off the bench in Saturday’s 67-19 win over Bedford Blues in the Premiership Rugby Cup, coming on as a replacement of the impressive Kieran Marmion who bagged yet another try. But with Harry Randall away with England during the Autumn Nations Series and with Sam Wolstenholme suffering a knee injury, the Bears director of rugby has moved quickly to provide cover in the specialist position.

Lam told BristolLive: “Sam Wolstenholme is now out for eight weeks, he has done his PCL. That is unfortunate for Sammy because he did well in his short time playing and probably would have started today. We are low at nine with Harry Randall away with England so we have brought Oscar Lennon back.

“He has been down playing in New Zealand [for Manawatu] and he was brilliant with Boston side the New England Free Jacks in the MLR, he won that. He arrived back yesterday and has brought some reinforcement for us there.”

Welshman Lennon first featured for the Bears in 2021 while on loan from Hartpury and signed a professional deal with the club in 2022 but was released at the end of last season having made just nine senior appearances.
