Troy Deeney has furiously insisted that Wayne Rooney might be the ‘most disrespected English footballer ever’, insisting the ex-striker doesn’t get enough credit for everything he achieved throughout his career.
The 39-year-old is currently in charge of Championship side Plymouth Argyle, having taken over back in the summer.
While Rooney is still establishing himself as a manager, he was one of the best players of his generation.
The former striker won five Premier League titles with Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson, while also helping the club win trophies such as the Champions League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League as well.

And Deeney, speaking on The Stomping Ground alongside Ravel Morrison, thinks Rooney doesn’t get enough respect.
“Wayne Rooney might be the most disrespected footballer in English history,” he fumed.
“People don’t know how f*****g good Wayne Rooney was, and still is.”
Rooney recently scored a stunning free kick while playing a legends game for United.

Morrison said: “I think he is the best player ever to come out of England, by far, by far.”
Deeney then continued: “I don’t disagree with that.
“There’s nothing that man couldn’t do.
“You know how people talk about Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham now… Wayne could do it all.

“He scored goals, he was stronger than most players, he was rapid, he would tackle.
“At 18 he was going at Lilian Thuram [at Euro 2004]!”
Rooney retired from football in 2021 after a spell at Derby County.
He then proceeded to take charge of the Championship side and, in the time since, has managed DC United, Birmingham City and now Plymouth Argyle.

Rooney has won three of his 12 league games in charge of Plymouth.
They currently find themselves in the relegation zone, with only QPR and Portsmouth picking up less points.
Rooney’s side face Leeds at Elland Road today (3pm).
And that’s a match the football icon is looking forward to, saying: “It’s a historic club, a very big club. They always create a good atmosphere for the team, but it’s on us now to go there, we have to be able to play in that atmosphere and try and quieten the crowd down.

“I think the last three games for us, we’re letting goals in too easily.
“It needs to be more difficult for the opposition to score against us, so it’s something we’ve focused on this week, to try to be a bit more resilient, getting into our shape quicker, getting to the ball and being more aggressive.
“It’s a big challenge for us on Saturday, but one I think we’re ready for.”
