- The custom builds will be faithful replicas of the Dark Knight Tumbler
- Wayne Enterprises is only making 10 of the custom builds
- Price tag is a cool US$3 million
In case you missed the memo, Warner Bros has turned the Wayne Enterprises brand into a house of outrageous luxury goods ranging from costly menswear to over-the-top jewelry. Now added to the mix is a driveable replica of the too-cool Tumbler, a variant of the Batmobile which appeared on the silver screen during the Dark Knight trilogy, for the cool price tag of US$3 million.
Powered by a 6.2L V8 not unlike the one under the hood of a Chevy pickup truck, the Tumbler is good for 525 horsepower and 486 lb-ft of torque. Its automatic transmission is also sourced from GM – but that’s the demarcation point of anything resembling a product from Ren Cen. Weighing about 5,500 pounds and measuring just over 15 feet long, the Tumbler is heavy as a Silverado but not much longer than a Supra. At 9’3” in width, it is about a foot wider than a city bus. This all helps explain why the Tumbler isn’t street legal.
Materials for its construction are said to include Kevlar, carbon fibre, and sheet metal fibreglass draped over a frame constructed of tubular aeronautical steel. The jet engine is just a simulation without any flames but we’re willing to forgive that bit of theatre, thanks to the devastating cool factor of this entire machine. Other features include a smoke screen delivery system and imitation gun turrets (yes, of course they’re imitation, absolutely).
Photos of the interior are scarce but the cabin is described as a two-place affair with an ‘original style’ dashboard suggesting the builders aren’t plucking something out of a parts bin for this effort. Bespoke seating trim, 10-inch screens, one-way mirrored glass, and five-point harnesses are promised. Again, this thing isn’t street legal but it’s sure to make a statement at shows or tooling a track during parade laps.
Interested? Only 10 will be built and allocation is on an application system with owners invited from the assembled list. Delivery is scheduled 15 months after the customer slaps down a hefty deposit. Presumably, Alfred Pennyworth will call when it is ready.
