An 11-year-old girl was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries when she was struck by a transit bus in Mississauga on Thursday afternoon.

But her condition was later stabilized.

Peel Regional Police say the young pedestrian was struck around 2:30 p.m. on Lisgar Dr. at Beacham St. – near Derry Rd. and Ninth Line – in front of Lisgar Middle School and the bus driver remained on the scene.

“Arrangements are being made to have her transported to SickKids Hospital where she’ll get the best care,” Const. Tyler Bell-Morena told CP24 early Thursday evening. “But I’m please to report she’s in stable condition.”

Lisgar was closed between Beacham and Dillingwood Dr. for the investigation and people were advised to use alternate routes.

Bell-Morena said it was still early in the investigation but it’s believed the girl ran in front of the bus as it was travelling south on Lisgar Dr.

“At this time, based on witness reports, there’s no information suggesting that the driving behaviour of the bus driver was outside of normal,” Bell-Morena told CP24. “And it looks right now like the child did attempt to run across the street in front of the path of the bus unfortunately.’
