A young teenage girl was arrested on Halloween for allegedly threatening to “shoot up” an Ajax high school in a social media post.
Durham Regional Police say officers from their West Division Central Investigations Branch (CIB) received information about a potential school shooting at Archbishop Denis O’Connor Catholic High School on Mandrake St. – southeast of Harwood Ave. and Kingston Rd. – around 11 p.m. on Wednesday.
“A snapchat post from a female was flagged, stating she would ‘shoot up a school’ in Ajax,” Const. Nicholas Gluckstein said in a statement released Thursday. “Through further investigation, members of CIB identified the suspect.”
He said officers attended the girl’s home in Ajax and took her into custody without incident around 1:20 a.m. on Thursday.
“No weapons were located in the suspect’s residence,” Gluckstein said. “At this time, police do not have any concerns for public safety.”
The 15-year-old girl, whose name can’t be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with uttering death threats.
She was released on an undertaking.
