Durham Regional Police are investigating the deadly shooting of a dog in Whitby on Thursday morning.
A dog was located in the area of Mary and Garden Sts. around 7:20 a.m. suffering from a gunshot wound and taken to an emergency veterinary clinic for treatment, police said in a social media post.
Police later confirmed the dog had died.
“Police are continuing to search the area for additional victims,” they added.
There is no suspect information is available at this time.
“We are assuming there may have been a lot of people making their way to work at the time,” acting Staff-Sgt. Joanne Bortoluss told CP24.
“So we are making an appeal to those people that might have been in this area, if they heard anything, if they saw anything, anyone with video surveillance is asked to come forward to investigators.
A man was arrested at the scene on an unrelated charge, police said.
Meanwhile, Toronto Police say a man walked into a hospital with a gunshot wound and investigators are trying to figure out if the two incidents are related, according to CP24.
