Football star Patrice Evra has travelled the globe throughout his footballing career, but only now the public is starting to see that the former Manchester United defender has actually started to pick up some local lingo.

Although, no one expected that local lingo to be something of a Belfast brogue.

Speaking with NI comedian Shane Todd on the latest episode of the funny man’s ‘Tea With Me’ podcast, the former France captain was taught how to say ‘Oh aye’ instead of the word ‘yes’ when responding to anyone from Northern Ireland.

It’s safe to say the five-time Premier League winner picked it up fairly well too – but he didn’t think saying ‘Oui’ in the same drawn out Belfast tone had the same effect.

The superstar athlete was in Northern Ireland last week to pay a surprise visit to Larne Football Club, ahead of their European clash against Dublin’s Shamrock Rovers last Thursday.

He also paid a visit to Thompsons Nightclub in Belfast, following in the footsteps of current United forward Marcus Rashford.

This season Larne became the first Irish League club to ever reach the group stages of a European competition.

Whilst Evra said he did not travel all the way from Dubai to see the Inver Park side lose, they did end their Uefa Conference League game against the Rovers with a 4-1 defeat at Windsor Park last week.

They kicked off their league phase earlier this month with a 3-0 loss to Molde in Norway.

Tiernan Lynch’s men will next face Slovenian team Olimpija away in Europe, at the end of November.
