Queen Mary has broken her cover in Australia on the anniversary of King Frederik’s “affair” scandal.

The 56-year-old monarch, who was then titled the Crown Prince of Denmark, was spotted in Madrid with the Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova on October 25, 2023.

It was a scandal that rocked the Danish monarchy and the catalyst for Queen Margrethe II’s shock abdication, according to some commentators.

Queen Mary has now been spotted in Sydney, Australia, one year after the “affair” scandal.

Queen Mary, 52, enjoyed a break in her home country with her 13-year-old daughter Josephine.

It is unclear if the rest of her family joined the royal for her trip Down Under, however, Frederik was pictured opening a University of Copenhagen building in the Danish capital yesterday.

In 2023, the Spanish magazine Lecturas published photographs of Frederik in Madrid with Casanova.

Despite originally saying nothing about the “affair” rumours, the Danish Royal Family later released a short statement to the Danish publication B.T.

They said they “do not comment on rumours or insinuations”.

King Frederik and Queen Mary both personally stayed silent about the allegations.

After the pictures in the Spanish magazine were published, Casanova claimed the “malicious” rumours of an “affair” were false.

The Mexican socialite posted a legal letter on Instagram, where she threatened legal action against the magazine.

Amber Petty, Mary’s bridesmaid from her 2004 wedding, refused to comment or “go anywhere near” the scandal, she told The Mail.

A communications expert told B.T. that the Danish Royal Family were not concerned by the rumours.

According to the publication, the royals considered the allegations a “breeze” as opposed to a storm.

In January 2024, Mary and Frederik were photographed kissing on the balcony of Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, after a declaration on the accession to the throne by the Danish Prime Minister.
