Bargain Hunt expert Thomas Forrester was left visibly frustrated with the Blue team, comprised of sisters Emma and Rachel from Bristol, as they debated over a “risky” item he had recommended.
In the latest episode, hosted by Christina Trevanion and aired on Wednesday (October 30), the Red team, consisting of married couple Hazel and Peter, expressed their determination to win early on.
Meanwhile, the Blue team, made up of sisters Emma and Rachel, took a more subdued approach, stating they were on the lookout for “spooky clowns”. As the teams began their search, they were introduced to their assigned experts, with Caroline Hawley guiding the Reds and Thomas assisting the Blues.
However, it quickly became apparent that Thomas and the sisters had differing opinions on several items. While browsing the market, Thomas spotted a clown head sculpture he thought would appeal to the sisters.
But they were unimpressed, telling him, “No, not really. We wanted something with blood on.” Thomas was taken aback, exclaiming, “Blood, you are so weird,” as they continued their search for a bargain, reports the Mirror.
The sisters had been tasked with finding an item related to “books or writing”. Expert Thomas was convinced he had the perfect item for the sisters, presenting an “enamel sign for libraries” that could date back to before World War II.
After some negotiation, they got the price down to £139 from the initial £180. Thomas was quite taken with the French sign and began his pitch: “She has agreed to your £139, that nails your big spend, that nails the challenge, and it nails it in a way that isn’t boring, like a pen, it’s a risk.”
When Rachel requested: “Thomas, can we have two seconds to confirm?” He quickly retorted: “No,” and then added: “No, you either buy it or you don’t.” Despite Thomas’s impatience, the sisters whispered among themselves.
They decided: “We think we should do it.” Thomas couldn’t hide his enthusiasm, saying: “I think you should do it, I really do. It’s a massive risk, and I love it.” However, at the auction, the sign fetched far less than expected, selling for just £90, leaving the Blues with a significant £49 deficit right off the bat.
Their luck didn’t improve, and they ended up losing a considerable amount on each purchase. It was then up to Thomas to “redeem himself” and he managed to recoup £40.
The Blues ended up with a deficit of £42, but were completely overshadowed by the Reds, who made an impressive profit of £180 from a small silver jug, resulting in a total winning amount of £159 to take home.
Bargain Hunt airs on BBC One, weekdays from 12:15pm.
