Tragic new details have revealed that Liam Payne was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time when he ‘fainted’ and fell to his death earlier this month, according to reports.
The 31-year-old plummeted from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16, in broad daylight, with a medical expert in the South American country saying “there was no way to do anything”.
But now, reports from a journalist in Argentina have suggested the former One Direction singer could just as easily have passed out and fallen onto his bed at the Casa Sur Hotel – if he had simply been inside his hotel room, rather than out on the balcony.
Alluding to a “horrific” sequence of CCTV footage that allegedly captured the moment the singer fell, broadcast journalist Paula Verala said: “There is footage that is not being released to the media with the balcony scene where you see that Liam faints and tragically, because of where he is, falls from that balcony. If he had been beside his bed he would have fallen on his bed.”
Speaking to Socios del Espectaculo, a show broadcast on TV station Canal 13 based in Buenos Aires, Ms Varela, 45, went on: “It’s not that he jumped deliberately. This footage is in the official case files.
“There’s a lad who’s being investigated, he was working nights at the hotel. He struck up an excellent relationship with Liam. He disobeyed an order from the hotel management. What was the order he disobeyed? It was not to take anything into Liam’s room.”
Payne had been enjoying a holiday in Argentina and had attended his friend and former bandmate, Niall Horan’s, concert with girlfriend Kate Cassidy earlier in the month, just days before he tragically passed away.
Prosecutors released a statement indicating that Payne was believed to be “in a state of semi or total unconsciousness” during a substance-induced ‘psychotic episode’ when he fell, reports the Daily Mirror.
Alberto Crescenti, head of the state emergency medical system, confirmed the fall into an internal courtyard while speaking to Todo Noticias TV channel in Argentina.
He stated: “A few minutes later [an] emergency team arrived and confirmed the death of this man, who we later learned was from a musical group. He had injuries incompatible with life as a result of his fall. There was no way to do anything.”
The toxicology report suggested that due to the position of Payne’s body and the nature of his injuries, “it is presumed that Payne did not adopt a reflexive posture to protect himself, and may have fallen in a state of semi or total unconsciousness.”
