A Bristol sports pub has reopened following an extensive refurbishment, creating a number of jobs. The Trooper, on Bryants Hill, closed last month so the upgrade could be carried out.

A six-figure sum was spent on revamping the venue, which is part of Stonegate Group’s Craft Union. The renovation includes an increase in space, adding 56 covers to the pub’s capacity, a new outdoor area and indoor sports zone with dartboards. The pub, which shows Sky Sports and TNT Sports, has also had a state-of-the-art audio-visual system installed.

Operator Lynne Hunt originally began working at the Trooper in 1974 as a member of bar staff, taking over the management of the pub in 1990.

Ms Hunt said: “We can’t wait to welcome back locals to our new look pub! Reopening as part of the Craft Union family marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for us.

“We know the full refurbishment has not only enriched our warm and welcoming atmosphere but also strengthened the pub’s community spirit, which was at the heart of our thoughts during the investment.”

The Trooper, which is dog friendly, hosts a number of daily activities including darts night on Monday, a quiz on Tuesday, ‘race day’ on Wednesday – where punters pick a horse and get the chance to win a pint – and ‘games day’ on Thursday.

It also has local live entertainment on Friday and Saturday, and a traditional meat raffle on Sunday.
