The Bristol Cheesemonger has expanded to open a second site in the city, this time on Gloucester Road. The popular cheese seller already boasts a branch at Wapping Wharf’s Cargo 2 development, next to the Harbourside, and opened on the bustling North Bristol independent shopping street late last week.

You can find it in the former site of Brewers Droop, near the Co-op, along the road past The Cider Press. In a post to Instagram on October 14, the team shared a series of images of the new shop’s renovation work, and wrote: “Never have I ever….. Done tiling, painted a ceiling, knocked a hole in a wall, plumbed multiple sinks, dismantled a massive wooden bar, used a power sander, put on new skirting, put up a plaster board wall… Amongst millions of other jobs that are coming together to create something exciting!

“Massive thanks to all the friends who have stepped up to help. You’ve made it a blast!” The post was tagged on Gloucester Road.

The award-winning cheese shop, owned by husband and wife team Jenny and Oli, is described as being not only a British cheese specialist, but also having a focus on ‘seasonality and smaller production cheeses – predominantly cheese from the South West’. Jenny and Oli spend their time visiting farms and dairies, where they taste test before bringing back some of the best produce to sell in store.

All their cheeses are ‘carefully sourced and hand picked from artisan cheese makers from around the UK’, but are again ‘primarily from the South West’. The couple took on the ownership of The Bristol Cheesemonger back in 2021, with its founder Rosie Morgan, who had started the business as a small table of goods in the corner of Hart’s Bakery before growing into a market stall, pop-up and later shops, selling it to the pair.

Both Jenny and Oli were former members of staff, who she described in an Instagram post at the time to be “cheese afficionados”. Since its birth, The Bristol Cheesemonger has been named among the best cheese shops in both the city and the country.

In addition to a selection of cheeses that the public can purchase in the shop, it now offers wholesale cheese for restaurants, pubs and delis nationwide, corporate tastings and events for businesses, and even cheesemaking sessions and classes at The Pony Cookery School.

Taking to the comments section, fans were quick to share their excitement at the news. One wrote: “Omg are you opening on Gloucester Road? We’ve been saying forever that we need a cheesemonger here.”

A second commented: “Good job guys. Really looking forward to being neighbours.” While a third said: “Love this! Let’s get that date in for a tasting!”
