But the Gunners fired ahead before half-time through a set-piece of their own when Declan Rice’s incredible free-kick found summer signing Mikel Merino.
VAR did check for offside for some time, which took the sting out of what was an all-action first half.

With Gabriel forced off and William Saliba and Riccardo Calafiori already absent, Mikel Arteta has been forced to throw together a fresh defence.
That included Ben White and Jakub Kiwior at centre-back, Thomas Partey at right-back and Jurrien Timber at left-back, who was already a doubt going into the match.

And Salah took advantage after a stunning pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold released Darwin Nunez down the flank.
The Egypt international tucked in behind him, received his pass and tucked past David Raya to make it 2-2.
