Matalan has just dropped a new coat that’s turning heads for its striking resemblance to a pricier piece by activewear giant Lululemon. The high street favourite, known for delivering on-trend fashion at wallet-friendly prices, offers the Black Long Padded Coat which echoes the luxe features of the Lululemon Wunder Puff Long Jacket, but without the hefty price tag.
Both outerwear options boast similar quilted designs, cosy hoods, and water-resistant exteriors, complete with a chic colour block aesthetic and zip fronts. While the Lululemon jacket allows wearers to cinch in the waist and sports the brand’s logo on the cuffs and hood, Matalan’s take includes practical pull strings by the hood—a detail absent from its upscale counterpart.
Additionally, Matalan’s coat comes in versatile brown and khaki hues, whereas Lululemon sticks to classic black or white.
The product description for Matalan’s coat invites shoppers to “Wrap up in elegance with our black long padded coat. Cut to a flattering elongated silhouette, this coat offers unparalleled warmth and style for the chilliest of days.”
It continues, “The black colour ensures a versatile everyday wear while the padded feature ensures a warm wear in the cold months,” reports the Mirror.
In terms of pricing, Lululemon’s Wunder Puff Long Jacket is tagged at £348, but Matalan’s version is a steal at just £55, offering customers a potential saving of about £293 if they go for the high street option.
Alternatively, a number of other retailers stock similar padded coats too. Next has the Threadbare Longline Hooded Padded Coat for £50, while George at Asda has the Khaki Long Hooded Padded Coat on sale for £33.60, down from £42.
New Look’s Black Hooded Longline Puffer Coat, priced at £85.99, has been gathering glowing reviews. One satisfied customer shared: “Lovely quality, well padded and good length. Perfect for winter days.”
Another added: “A very smart and comfortable purchase. When zipped all the up, it’s like wearing a duvet and keeping you warm and snug.”
They also mentioned, “The zips at the bottom are perfect to help keep you cool if you do become too hot in this coat, as well as giving more movement and less restrictive.”
However, not everyone was impressed, with one shopper commenting that the jacket wasn’t as padded as they had hoped, saying: “This padded jacket is not padded well and very spacey in each part and will it keep you warm for long, I have returned this jacket due to the puffiness not that puffy!”
