A much-loved Northern Ireland dog who brought joy to fans across the world has died.

Harley – aka Harlso the Balancing Hound – lost his battle with cancer yesterday, his owners announced.

The dog became famous for his ability to balance items on his head.

His owners Paul and Jennifer Lavery said “life will never be the same”.

Posting on social media today, they said: “Yesterday at 11.25am, at home, cuddled in his momma’s arms and surrounded by love, Harlso’s loyal soul left this earth to guide us from the stars.

“His health had deteriorated quickly, and he let us know that it was time. Our hearts are broken and life will never be the same.”

With nearly 600,000 followers combined across all platforms, Harlso rose to fame in 2016.

But in September Paul and Jennifer shared the news that their beloved pet had incurable cancer.

Following a biopsy, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of mouth cancer.

And yesterday, he passed away.

Posting on Harlso’s Facebook page, Paul and Jennifer said “Harlso’s accomplishments are nothing short of legendary”.

They added: “Harlso’s balancing tricks amazed and brought smiles to millions, but his legacy is so much more — he showed us all the power of patience, trust, kindness and determination.”

Describing him as “the greatest”, they added: “He was our pride and joy, our purpose and our best friend.

“We also feel blessed to have shared him with the world.

“Nothing ever fazed him from appearing on TV shows, meet and greets, travelling, even appearing on stage.

“He was a born entertainer, a generational talent, a one in a million dog. It has been the honour and privilege of our lives to be his people.

“Fly high Harley but please do come visit us regularly in our dreams.”

Many of Harlso’s fans paid tribute on the page.

One said: “He was such a joy for so many people and brought laughter to so many lives. Thank you for sharing him with us. He will live on in your hearts and through all the loving memories you’ve created together.”

Another said: “From the moment I discovered Harlso on FB, he has brought a smile to my face with each and every post. He certainly was one in a million. So talented, smart, and sweet. He was a fighter, too. Powering through surgeries, recovery, and rehab – bringing joy to countless followers and fans around the globe.”
