The clocks will soon turn back yet again as the UK leaves Daylight Saving Time ahead of the winter.

Ending Daylight Saving Hours, which came in on March 26, will bring some much needed morning sunlight to the UK.

Turning the clocks back will also give Britons an extra hour in bed.

But what is the exact date and time for the clocks changing?

The clocks will go back by one hour at 2am on Sunday, October 27.

Tomorrow’s switch will see the UK jump from British Summer Time, also known as Daylight Saving Time, to Greenwich Mean Time.

Smartphones and other devices will change automatically in the early hours of the morning.

The Palace of Westminster Clockmakers will also complete their intricate operation to alter the Great Clock of Westminster inside Big Ben.

However, Britons will need to adjust clocks and watches to make sure they do not get their timings wrong going forward.

Britons have also been warned that they might have to work an extra hour without getting paid if they are working overnight.

According to Personnel Today: “Employers don’t necessarily have to pay employees for working an hour longer on a particular shift. The situation can differ for hourly paid and salaried employees.”

Personnel Today added: “For some workers, the position will even out when they gain an hour when the clocks go forward again.

“But this won’t always be the case – a worker who works an extra hour in October might not be working the night shift when the clocks go forward again in March.

“Nevertheless, in the interests of fairness, employers that require employees to work by the clock in October should do the same in March, when they will be able to go home after working an hour less.”

British Summer Time was first introduced during the First World War following the Summer Time Act of 1916.

William Willett, an Edwardian builder and the great-great-grandfather of Coldplay’s Chris Martin, had devised a campaign in which he proposed that the clocks go forward in spring and back in winter.

Willett suggested it would enable people to spend more time outdoors during the day, saving energy.

However, it is believed that the ancient Romans also followed a similar practice in order to use their time efficiently during the day.

Looking ahead to clocks springing forward, Britons will have to wait until 1am on March 30, 2025.
