The Kinahan cartel is Ireland’s most powerful crime gang, and one half of its most notorious gang war.

After a failed hit on boss Daniel Kinahan in 2015, the cartel recruited a team of killers to retaliate against their attackers, known as the Hutch gang.

The bloody clash, which took the lives of 18 people, started in Dublin’s criminal underworld in 2015.

The men involved in killing included an Estonian assassin Imre ‘The Butcher’ Arakas.

In 2017 he was paid €60,000 to kill senior Hutch gang member James ‘Mago’ Gately, who was living in exile in Belfast.

Shortly after Arakas arrived in Dublin, the hitman, who tried to pose as a tourist, was arrested by the Gardaí, who recovered his plan from a phone.
