A family has escaped injury as emergency services battle an ongoing house fire in west Belfast.

It’s understood the fire broke out at the front door of a property close to Beechmount after midday.

Pictures shared on social media from the scene on the Falls Road showed the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service tackling the blaze as smoke was seen billowing out of the property.

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said two appliances are currently dealing with the blaze, with one appliance from Springfield Station and one appliance from Central Station.

Members of the public including staff at the nearby Northern Mortgages also battled the blaze with fire extinguishers.

Pictures from the scene show flames inside the property as firefighters in breathing apparatus tackling the blaze.

In a post on social media the Beechmount Residents Collective group wrote: “We were at the scene of a house fire at the front of the road going into Iveagh the people all got out safe and no one was seriously hurt.

“Absolutely fast response from local businesses and Residents who made the 999 call and brilliant work from the fire department.

“We hope the family are not too shook up from this and hope other properties were not damaged.”

A NIFRS spokesperson confirmed the incident remains ongoing.
