Former firearms officer Tony Long has called for increased protection for police officers following recent high-profile cases.

“Something has to be done about that as well, I’m afraid,” Long said, emphasising that while anonymity for officers is “a fantastic step forward”, more action is needed.

His comments come in the wake of Sergeant Martyn Blake’s acquittal for the murder of Chris Kaba, which has reignited debate about the accountability and protection of armed police officers.
