British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury has revealed that his wife Paris suffered a miscarriage on the eve of his fight against Oleksandr Usyk earlier this year.

Fury will rematch Usyk on December 21 after their first fight saw the Ukrainian claim a split-decision victory over the Briton and becoming the undisputed world heavyweight champion in the process.

Paris was set to fly out to Saudi Arabia for the first bout on May 19 to watch him on but told him she could not join him because of high blood pressure.

Fury did not find out his wife had miscarried until after the fight when he had returned home to Morecambe.

Tyson Fury revealed the heartbreaking news before his press conference on Wednesday

Speaking before his press conference on Wednesday, the 36-year-old said: “I am not making excuses but she was six months pregnant.

“It’s not like a small miscarriage at the beginning, you have to physically give birth to a dead child, on your own, while your husband is in a foreign country.

“To go through that on your own isn’t good. When she said she couldn’t come over, I knew there was a problem.

“She said she had high blood pressure. Turki Alalshikh offered us a private jet to get around the high blood pressure and said she could bring the doctor with her.

“She said she couldn’t come. I asked her what was up and asked her to tell me, but she wouldn’t. So I knew.

“She never told me she had lost the baby, but I knew. When I got back I got the inevitable confirmation that it was gone, but she had kept it to herself.”

Fury insisted his performance against Usyk was nothing to do with the miscarriage, though, after he suffered the first defeat of his professional career.

“It’s not an excuse – hell no. I am a man of honour. I do what I have to do when I am in there,” added Fury.

“I don’t think about that sort of stuff when I am in that fight.

“Nothing outside the ring matters, there is no emotion. You think about all that stuff afterwards.”

Tyson Fury has been married to Paris since 2008

Tyson and Paris have seven children – four sons and three daughters – together and have been married since 2008.

It is not the first time that the Furys have suffered heartbreak in such circumstances, with Paris having had two miscarriages before.

The first came before Fury’s cancelled fight against Alexander Ustinov in 2014 and the second on the same day as his comeback fight against Sefer Seferi in 2018.
