The long arm of the NHL law tapped Oliver Ekman-Larsson on the shoulder on Tuesday.

The Maple Leafs defenceman was fined $5,000 US, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement, for interference against Tampa Bay Lightning forward Jake Guentzel on Monday night.

During the third period of the Leafs’ 5-2 win, Ekman-Larsson caught an unsuspecting Guentzel with a reverse hit. Ekman-Larsson was assessed an interference minor on the play.

The money goes to the players’ emergency assistance fund.

Ekman-Larsson and his teammates are in Columbus to play against the Blue Jackets on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the second half of a back-to-back.
