Bristol Live readers have been rummaging though the issue of missed bin collections, after Bristol Live’s recent analysis which shed light on the neighbourhoods in Bristol experiencing a high number of missed bin collections, with St. George topping the list, followed by Brislington and Whitchurch.

At the Bristol City Council Members Forum on Tuesday, October 8, Cllr Caroline Gooch (Westbury-on-Trym and Henleaze, Liberal Democrat) described the situation as councillors and residents “screaming into the void” in search of a response to the missed collections. Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Policy Committee, Cllr Martin Fodor (Redland, Green), addressed the challenges faced by Bristol Waste following re-routings but assured that solutions were on their way.

Moreover, it was mentioned at the Forum that the appointment of a new managing director is set to bolster continuing efforts to address these issues. In addition, Cllr Tony Dyer (Southville, Green), Leader of the Council, spoke about the impacts of service cuts but highlighted a new strategic focus on commercial growth to improve the situation.

This is what our readers had to say on the topic: – Chris2031 writes: “What a joke, Recycling again problems in my road in Bedminster, the other side of the street gets done every week, the last 3 weeks theirs have been collected by contractors working on behalf of the council as there is a survey going on so they say. My side of the street, no show from Bristol Waste for my recycling on the October 2nd, 2 weeks collected on October 9th and now last week October 16th – no recycling collected again, what a joke.”

LucyClarkKiwi asks: “How can bins be missed though? Don’t they have a list of streets? Or a route to follow?”

Stnick adds: “Charge a fortune but can’t empty our bins, can’t use the tip with out jumping through hoops! Joke.”

Bs3bob says: “9 times out of 10 recently Bristol waste have spread the collection over 2 days. One day (scheduled day) they’ll collect either the bin (House or garden) and the next they’ll catch up on the recycling or vice versa.”

Keefo28 believes: “Taxpayers should get a refund each time bins are not collected, that might get a rocket up em at the council then.”

Theob thinks: “The main reason for missed collections in our road is peoples parking at the road entrance is so bad that the bin and recycling vehicles can’t enter the road. Neither can fire engines or ambulances. Council have been complained to about this many times over past decade, but nothing done, no enforcement of yellow lines or any improvement made to ensure access is clear.”

Muttsnuts adds: “Arrr they missed the bin collections again. I need to move to a street with a pub on it. Bet they never miss those streets.”
