The “devastated” family of a slain Mississauga man is asking for help in identifying suspects involved in a fatal shooting earlier this month.

Peel Regional Police identified the victim of an Oct. 1 shooting in the Joan-Central Parkway Drs. area as Wei Ruo Zhao, 55, of Mississauga, who was one of three people injured during an “altercation” at a residence in the area.

“Our family is devastated by this senseless and heartbreaking act and we are seeking justice for Mr. Wei Ruo Zhao,” his family said in a statement released by Peel police.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have information about the suspect or the events of that night. If you saw anything suspicious, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, please come forward. Your information could help bring the person responsible to justice and prevent further harm.”

Zhao was found by officers on the night of the incident with “obvious signs of trauma” and transported to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The two other victims, both men, were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There was no information immediately available on their conditions, a Peel police spokesperson said.

On the day of the incident, CTV Toronto reported that Peel police responded to a potential break-in just before 4 a.m. after three suspects allegedly forced themselves into a home on Joan, where the three men were found with injuries.

The shooting was one of several violent incidents across the GTA in the span of about a day that left five people dead and several others injured.

Peel police said homicide investigators and Zhao’s family are urging anyone with information to contact them at 905-453-2121, Ext. 3205, or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

“Your help is crucial to give our family and Mr. Wei Ruo Zhao the justice we deserve,” the family said in their statement.
