Gary Neville has started a new role as an ambassador at Manchester United, just days after Sir Alex Ferguson was removed from his own role at Old Trafford.

The Scot, who won 13 Premier League titles during his time as manager, was axed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe following a meeting between the pair.

Talks are believed to have been amicable, though Ratcliffe has sparked a backlash with many club legends unhappy with the decision to give Ferguson the boot.

Now, according to The Sun, Neville is back working for United in India.

The ex-Red Devils skipper has returned to the fold as a freelance ambassador, having attended an event at the Minerva academy in Mohali.

Neville posted photos of his trip to Asia, where he attended the Apollo Tyres flagship grassroots football programme.

The 49-year-old has been critical of United during his time at a Sky Sports pundit amid the club’s plight since Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

But he seems to be back involved at his former club, having also been enlisted as part of United’s stadium taskforce.

The Red Devils are torn on whether to tear down Old Trafford, and move into a new stadium, or stay at the famous arena.

Neville established himself as a legend at United during his playing days.

A member of the Class of 92, he ended up winning eight Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies.

Neville eventually retired in 2011 after believing he’d become a shadow of his former self.

He did briefly chance his arm in management, taking charge of Valencia during the 2015/16 campaign.

With his spell a big disaster, however, he’s predominantly stuck to punditry in the time since.

United, meanwhile, have endured a rough start to the season.

But they did give fans reason to cheer on Saturday, with the fallen giants coming from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 courtesy of goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund.

He continued: “The togetherness you see today and the determination.

“We will score goals and then win games, it’s what everyone expects, especially the fans who are always behind us. When everyone is against us, they stick with us.

“They are behind us and it is also one of the reasons why we made a quick start after half-time. We increased the tempo and turned a losing game into a winning one.”
